Wilderness Empowerment’s (WE) humble roots took ground in the late 1990s, formed as a zero-capacity web development business amidst the fallout from the 1997 market crash in Malaysia.
Caught in a time where the economy was slow and money was tight, WE decided to differentiate ourselves by elevating our expertise level. Armed with only sheer dedication, we honed ourselves until WE were positioned within the top percentile of the technical skills chain. Life was good.
A realization hit us in 2007; information technology was ever-evolving and obsolescence reared its ugly head every other day. IT proficiency in Malaysia, however, was lagging far behind and threatened to mark us all as out of date as a wind-up clock – functional but least preferred. From our vantage point, it was crystal clear that between technology and proficiency was a looming gap, which was growing everyday as we were increasingly brought in to provide solutions for even the most basic IT needs.
Instead of capitalising others’ lack of proficiency and dominating the IT solutions industry, WE being technical and knowledge leaders realized that we were carrying a large responsibility. The deteriorating level of proficiency throughout Malaysia and the collective lack of knowledge would eventually be detrimental to our economy as a whole. WE needed to act.
With only a handful of local trainers, we took our fledgling steps into the training industry. Our deep knowledge and carefully crafted programmes were our strengths, but it was our drive and commitment to empower clients with our result-oriented and philosophical approach that made us different. Technical and soft skills can be acquired from a myriad of sources, but approach, passion and a winning mentality can only be imparted by the right mentors.
The recent years have blessed us with an immense reception as we continue helping our clients tame the digital jungles. To cope with the increasing demand and the specialistic nature of our programmes, WE carefully hand-picked our trainers from Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Philippines, closely scrutinising the selection process to ensure that what we do is not merely teaching – it is the act of empowerment.
